AJABU AJABU BIOGRAPHY

TANZANIA

Ajabu Ajabu is a collective of audio-visual practitioners based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, who work on the preservation, production, and presentation of audio-visual art. Their work is centered around screenings, productions, workshops and other programming all related to deconstructing bias in film cultures, platforming underrepresented narratives, and promoting amateur and experimental storytelling practice.

Ajabu Ajabu's Projects For Creation Africa

Picha La Leo is an end of month program of cinema and conversation around classic and contemporary African cinema. In the first year of the program, over 20 film screenings were hosted with the intention of providing access to the diversity and richness of African cinematic storytelling from across the continent.

For the second year of Creation Africa, a writing circle called Semi Za Picha will be introduced. The aim is to continue supporting the documentation of these screenings and share skills for critical thinking and analysis of African film past and present from the perspective of audiences in Tanzania. Workshops will be the basis of two annual publications, both in english and kiswahili, intended to strengthen knowledge and understanding of cinema.
